The 2-Minute Scoop to Keep You in the Loop

President Biden has signed an order to have companies share with the government any risks their AI technology might pose, especially in aiding the creation of dangerous weapons or generating misleading deep fakes. This move aims to show the US's lead not only in AI tech but also in its safe and responsible use. While it's a step towards more AI regulation, the order has limits and relies on more action from Congress to fully safeguard against AI's potential dangers. Also AI.gov, the official website of the US government, is primarily focusing on AI talent.

A lawsuit against AI art generators Midjourney and DeviantArt hit a snag as a US judge dismissed most claims, challenging the accusation of copyright infringement due to the ambiguous nature of AI training with billions of internet images. The artists have indicated they will amend their complaints and continue the legal battle against what they say is unfair use of their work by artificial intelligence image generators. The case underscores the complex legal landscape of AI and copyright, spotlighting the need for clearer regulation in the face of rapidly evolving technology.

Phind has developed a new model for code generation, claiming to match or surpass GPT-4's quality but with significantly faster performance. The Phind Model V7, fine-tuned on a vast dataset, achieves a 74.7% accuracy on the HumanEval benchmark and delivers GPT-4 level responses in 10 seconds, as opposed to GPT-4's 50 seconds, thanks to optimizations for NVIDIA H100s. This advancement provides quicker responses to technical coding inquiries, enhancing its utility as a tool for developers.

🎵 The Beatles' AI Encore

With a Little Help from AI Friends

The unreleased Beatles song "Now And Then," initially penned by John Lennon in 1978, is seeing the light of day thanks to artificial intelligence

The technology helped isolate and enhance Lennon's original vocals from an old demo, allowing for a refined mix with new instrumentation. This initiative, reignited by director Peter Jackson amid his work on the documentary "Get Back," saw Paul McCartney and the archival recordings of the late George Harrison contribute to the song's completion.

We can all say we were alive when The Beatles dropped a new song in 2023!
